2020 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2020 Subaru Forester

Serving Troy, MI

The current Subaru lineup is loaded with exciting possibilities that blend functional performance with modern features and style. As you take a closer look at the line, you will discover that the 2020 Crosstrek and the 2020 Forester are both compact crossover SUVs. Because they are in the same auto class, it is easy to assume that they are comparable in many ways. With a closer look, you will see that the Forester has been available for 23 years, and it has evolved beautifully through five generations. The Crosstrek is a newer option, and it has only experienced one generational update since its release in 2012. Which of these smaller crossover SUVs is the right model for you?

The Crosstrek and the Forester have the same ground clearance, but the Crosstrek has a sleeker profile. As a result, the Crosstrek has less cargo space and cabin volume than the Forester. With a cursory review of these two models, you will notice that the smaller Crosstrek is, the more affordable the two options are. Also, the Crosstrek is powered by a 2.0-liter, 152-horsepower engine across its three gas powertrains. It is also available with a 148-horsepower hybrid powertrain. The bottom two trims have a manual transmission, and the top trims are equipped with a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. The Forester has one powertrain available across its six trims. This is a 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter engine connected to a CVT. All trims for both models also carry vehicle dynamic control, traction control, intelligent all-wheel drive, and active torque vectoring. The Forester also has hill descent control and X-Mode as standard features, and these are only available in select Crosstrek trims.

The smaller stature of the 2020 Crosstrek is combined with a tapered look and a bold angle across the windshield. The Crosstrek also has up to 18-inch alloy wheels, raised roof rails, extended LED headlights, a chrome accent piece on the black grille, and smooth side panels. The Forester's larger dimensions are illustrated by its tall cabin and the gentle angles across the hood and roof. The Forester also has up to 18-inch wheels with unique finishes and styles available. Also, the Forester has scooped contours throughout the sides, a chrome bar sitting atop the black grille and LED headlights that turn upward as they flow into a sharp point.

Because the Forester is placed above the Crosstrek in the current Subaru line, you can expect the Forester to have a few extra standard features and exciting options across its trims. For example, the dual-zone auto climate control system and the power liftgate are only offered in the Forester. However, you may be thrilled to discover that both models are available with a climate control system, a navigation system, an 8-inch touch screen for the multimedia equipment, a wireless internet connection, a Harman Kardon sound system, and others.
