Subaru is the automotive brand that is known for its exceptional engineering and overall well-designed vehicles. The Subaru Crosstrek and the Subaru Outback are popular options that our customers at Suburban Subaru are often drawn to. While they are seemingly comparable in essential areas, their individualized traits can help you to decide which vehicle to head home in soon.

Performance

The 2021 Crosstrek falls in the subcompact crossover SUV class, and most of its trim levels benefit from a 2.0-liter Subaru Boxer DOHC engine that delivers 152 horsepower. The hybrid version mates this engine with an electric motor to generate 137 net horsepower. The Crosstrek Sport and Limited trims have a 2.5-liter engine variant that puts out 182 horsepower. In comparison, the 2021 Subaru Outback has the same 182-horsepower engine as you will find in top Crosstrek trim levels. This engine is in the first four Outback trims. The top Outback trim level has a 2.4-liter turbo, 250-horsepower engine. Symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard in both models.

Appearance

The 2021 Crosstrek is smaller than the Outback across all dimensions, but these are both two-row vehicles with several shared traits. For example, they are both available with roof rails, 17-inch or 18-inch wheels and sharp LED headlight designs. They also both have powered side mirrors, a hands-free liftgate, a roof spoiler and a few other features. The Crosstrek has greater curvature through the rear, and this affects the profile and the shape of the side windows.

Features

When you review comparable trims, you will see that the Crosstrek is slightly more affordable. While the Crosstrek and the Outback have many shared interior and safety features, the Outback has a few extras at different trim levels. Throughout the trims, both models may be available with USB ports, cruise control, a multimedia system, wireless connectivity, a navigation system, power seats and other preferred features.
